Classroom Sessions

Tricks of the Trade not only helps players improve their on-ice skills, but also their
mental preparation and general understanding of hockey systems. Off-ice material
is provided for participants in a classroom environment to help them become a true
student of the game. The students will learn what scouts and evaluators look for
when they watch a game, and how to make an impression on them. To have success,
mental preparation is essential for any athlete, although it is often overlooked or
not understood. Tips on visualization and concentration will help give each player a
big advantage during his/her season. This is a skill that when learned at any age will
develop leadership qualities and game preparation not only for hockey, but also in life.

Dedicated athletes will take all steps necessary to give themselves an advantage.
Proper nutrition forms the foundation for one of these advantages. The hockey player
focuses on the improvement of both aerobic and anaerobic endurance, muscular strength,
skating speed, and specific hockey skills. By carefully selecting foods and beverages,
the athlete can obtain the ideal balance of necessary nutrients needed to compete at his/her
highest level. Tricks of the Trade will educate the students on which food and drink
to intake before, during, and after games; as well as throughout the season.

All classroom sessions will focus on age specific development.

"At first I thought the mental preparation and classroom were going to be a waste of time,
but it helped me a lot. I'm glad I did it." - Participant
