
A Chicago native, Sean is known as one of the top hockey players
to come out of the state of Illinois. Sean played his youth hockey with the
Northwest Chargers and then with team Illinois, where he collected 9 State
Championship titles. He then made the move to the United States Hockey League
(USHL), where he joined the Dubuque Fighting Saints and finished among the league
leaders in points (3rd). Sean went on to represent Illinois, playing twice for
the US National teams in Switzerland and Japan. He received MVP honors in the
Pacific Cup Gold Medal game against Russia. In 1994, Sean earned a scholarship to
play Division I hockey at Michigan State University. In his first year as a Spartan,
he received 'Freshman of the Year' honors. In his next three seasons, Sean went on
to become captain of the team and amassed All-CCHA 1st and 2nd team honors, as well
as, All-American status by leading all Division I players in goals with 36, setting
a NCAA record which has yet to be surpassed.
Sean's professional career began with the Las Vegas Thunder of the International
Hockey League (IHL), now the American Hockey League (AHL). leading all rookies in
goals. Sean spent his next two professional seasons in the AHL playing for the
Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins, and the Cleveland Lumberjacks. In 2001, Sean
moved to Europe to continue playing professionally. He led the British Elite league
in points while playing for the Belfast Giants. The following season, Sean signed
with the Vienna Capitals of the Austrian Elite League, where he was again among the
league leaders in goals (3rd). His last two professional seasons were played in
Switzerland for Langenthal. Sean led the league in points per game in his first
season in the Swiss Elite League, but unfortunately missed the majority of his last
season due to injury.
After his first year of coaching, Sean was selected by USA Hockey to be a part of the
National Development Program. This summer he will be traveling to St. Cloud, Minnesota,
where he will evaluate players and assist with coaching at the US Select 15 camp.
For the past eight years, Sean has been a skill instructor at various youth organizations
and camps. He has enjoyed teaching players of all levels across the United States and
Europe. Known as a prolific scorer and a highly skilled player, Sean has been able to
teach players some the techniques that have contributed to his success.
